Do shipping containers need ventilation?

Only for moisture-sensitive items.

Shipping containers do need ventilation if storing items sensitive to moisture, such as paper, textiles, or organic goods. Standard containers have small vents at the top of each side. Custom vent kits with louvres or fans can be fitted. Without ventilation, condensation can build up and damage some goods.

Did you know?
Container vents are designed to reduce moisture build-up, not cool the cargo. Their main job is to allow humid air to escape before it turns into condensation inside the container.
