An empty 20ft shipping container weighs about 2,200 kg. A 40ft container weighs about 3,800 kg. A 40ft High Cube weighs about 3,900 kg. Loaded containers can carry up to 28 metric tons of cargo. The corner posts take the full vertical load when stacked at sea.
